The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA has officially issued aerodrome certificates to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN for the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport and the Port Harcourt International Airport, marking a significant advancement in Nigeria’s airport safety and regulatory compliance framework.
The aerodrome certification confirms that both airports meet the required safety, operational, and infrastructure standards in line with International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO regulations. The process involved comprehensive inspections, safety assessments, operational reviews, and verification of airport systems and procedures by the NCAA.
According to aviation officials, the certification reflects FAAN’s continued efforts to improve airport infrastructure, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen safety management systems across Nigeria’s airports. The achievement also demonstrates NCAA’s commitment to effective regulatory oversight and enforcement of global aviation standards.
With the issuance of the certificates, Kano and Port Harcourt airports are now formally recognized as compliant aerodromes, capable of supporting safe aircraft operations, passenger movement, and airline activities under internationally accepted benchmarks.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that aerodrome certification boosts passenger confidence, supports airline operations, and enhances Nigeria’s reputation as a growing aviation hub in West Africa.
FAAN has reiterated its commitment to extending aerodrome certification to additional airports nationwide as part of its long term strategy to modernize airport operations and strengthen aviation safety across the country.
